Я долго не мог начать этот очерк. Не от остсутствия мыслей, а от их переизбытка. Как объяснить читателю, кто для мена Шостакович, что я могу сказать читатулю нового об этом известном композиторе? И вдруг перед моим внутренним взором возникли две знакомые картинки -- средневековый рисунок и фотография. Я кинулся к книжным полкам и разыскал то, что воссоединилось в памяти как знамение, перст Судьбы и всё токое прочее. На рисунке (он у мена в памяти всплыл со страниц "Божественной комедии" петербургского издания 1913 года) и на фотографи -- мужчины, примерно одного возраста, около тридцати, похожие друг на друга. Данте и Шостакович. Я вдруг впервые обнаружил это поразительное сходство!

Есть и иные изображения Данте (годы его жизни 1265 - 1321). Рафаэль, например, изобразил Данте в 1510 году, то есть 189 лет спустя после смерти поэта. Там поэт выглядит учть по-иному, но это, скорее, стремление к верности образа, чем к подобию. Однако для меня это теперь уже не имеет значения, подобие раскрылось!

For a long time I could not begin this essay. Not from lack of thoughts, but from their overabundance. How can I explain to the reader who Shostakovich is for me, what can I tell the reader new about this famous composer? And suddenly two familiar pictures appeared before my inner gaze - a medieval drawing and a photograph. I rushed to the bookshelves and looked for what was reunited in my memory as a sign, the finger of Destiny and all that rest. In the picture (it came to my mind in my memory from the pages of the "Divine Comedy" of the St. Petersburg edition of 1913) and in the photograph - men, about the same age, about thirty, similar to each other. Dante and Shostakovich. I suddenly discovered this striking similarity for the first time!

There are other images of Dante (his years 1265 - 1321). Raphael, for example, portrayed Dante in 1510, that is, 189 years after the poet's death. There, the poet looks differently, but it is rather a striving for the fidelity of the image than for the likeness. However, it doesn't matter to me anymore, the similarity has been revealed!
